Shrink DVD – Compress for Movie Burning

compress dvdWhen I began burning DVDs, I soon found out that not all of the files were going to fit on one disc... At first I didn't know what to do, but I quickly learned how to shrink those files down!  :-)

Compressing files is the only way you're going to get ALL of the movie on one disc. Before I knew this, I had 2 discs for every movie -- simply because the disc couldn't hold all the info. It was a mess. Discs were everywhere.

So listen to what Roger has to say and what *free* program to use to get your files nicely packed.

What Is A DVD Shrink?

DVD Shrink enables you to copy a DVD very easily. Copying a DVD doesn't get much simpler than this. Put the DVD into DVD-ROM or DVD burner. Choose either a Full Disk (1:1) copy or a main movie only. It'll analyze DVD, encode video files, and finally burn a copy of the DVD to DVD±R media.

DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size, which is usually below 4.7GB. The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning.

With DVD Shrink, you can reduce the size of the DVD in two ways. One is to remove content from the DVD eg. Remove extra features, and the other is to keep the entire original content, but reduce their quality and hence, file size.

DVD Shrink is the a free software that allows you to "shrink" existing DVD movies by removing content or reducing their quality so that they will all fit onto a single 4.7 GB DVD recordable. This is the first software of this kind that is actually free.

Most DVD titles are designed to prevent you from making copies. The first preventative measure is encryption. Most DVD titles are encrypted, which prevents you from either copying them to your hard drive, or if you manage to do so, being able to play the resulting files.

The next problem is not so easy. Most DVD video titles are simply too large to fit, without modification, onto a single recordable DVD-R disk. DVD Shrink overcomes this problem by modifying or "shrinking" the data from your original DVD. Last but not lease it's free.

It sure was nice of Roger to point out a free alternative, wasn't it? Again, speaking from our experiences, in the beginning we had to set the levels of compression where the backgrounds would not be as sharp as the main area of action. It was okay, but not exactly high quality production work.

It sounds like DVD Shrink takes care of all that for you without losing definition which is going to be important because you probably have a HD television or flat screen panel.
