In this article, Xuesong explains what you may gain by using the trial versions of the top paid (pro) software packages. Furthermore, there's a great list of some other free copying software as well.

Options in Free DVD Copy Software

The internet is a wealth of information on free DVD copy software, but buyer beware. Most free versions have limited capabilities and functions. They may produce a watchable DVD, but research is required to find the right program which will allow a good quality DVD to be replayed. While copying is the main objective, the free software is usually limited to straight copying of the original movie with no removal of protection and subject to difficulty in playing the DVD in some DVD players.

Programs such as Final burner free, Amok, Starburn and Express burn, to name a few of the available programs, are free programs which copy the original movie exactly. There are pro versions of most of these, which means for a fee the user can create menus and subtitles to customize the DVD experience. However, there are some high quality programs that offer a free trial version.

DVDFab HD Decryptor is a simple to use program that removes DVD protection, copies to the hard drive, and allows the user to customize with settings and options for editing the final DVD. This program is free to try for thirty days. DVD Passkey is a windows based driver which unprotects DVDs and Blu-rays allowing copy programs to access the DVD content.

DVDCloner is another program that offers a trial version. Most DVD copying programs convert DVD-R/RW to VCD/SVCD giving the DVD poor quality viewing; this copy program creates a final copy in exact DVD format much like the original movie. DVDCloner supports backup of all DVDs and has a built in "DVDFix" copy mode allowing the user to recover scratched or damaged DVDs.

DVD X Copy Xpress also restores scratched and damaged DVDs and can also fit a 2 disc movie onto 1 disc. This program comes with ingrained anti-piracy protection. DVD X Copy Xpress offers a trial version with the option of going pro for a fee.

It is possible to find free DVD copy software, which can produce a high quality DVD but researching the different programs, the options in each, and the user friendliness of the program will make the experience of backing up a DVD collection much more enjoyable and easy to follow.

http://EzineArticles.com/?Options-in-Free-DVD-Copy-Software&id=4962002

I have to agree with Xuesong and I'll take it one step further.

If you got your master DVDs together for a weekend, or even a week, you could sign up for the trial versions of the software and try them all out to see which one was the best -- and you'd have plenty of time to copy the rest of your discs!

It's just a suggestion...

In this case, we're doubling the capacity for your DVD with a new burner.

Joel walks us through the reasons why this improvement is certainly an improvement. But don't run out just yet to buy one, wait a little while for the price to peak and then decline.

Dual Layer DVD Burner - For Ultimate Capacity

Today's DVD burners aren't really meant to copy entire movies, especially large ones. These movies require a lot of memory and there's just not a lot of room on normal burnable DVD's to carry all that memory. For that reason, you usually have to use a compression program to shrink the file down so that it will fit on your DVD. Now, that's no longer an issue. Now, they have the dual layer DVD burner.

The dual layer DVD burner writes different information onto different layers of the DVD. By refocusing the laser, these extra layers can be read so as to improve on the capacity of the disk but also to improve the visuals and sound quality. What you are left with is the ultimate DVD technology perfect for copying your favorite movies straight to disk without any unnecessary software to shrink it down.

New Technology

The dual layer DVD burner is a fairly new product, the technology was just recently introduced, but once it catches on it will probably replace the standard DVD writer, at least once the price comes down. As with anything, the latest technology usually costs the most. However, you can find great deals on dual layer DVD burners, you just have to know where to look.

Ask Your Local Electronics Rep

Go into your local electronics store and inquire about dual layer DVD writer. Tell them you know what they can do and you're looking to improve your DVD writer technology. Since you seem to know what you're talking about, they will be less likely to take advantage of you and will show you a quality component that you won't break your bank account over. If you know what brand you want, you can always search online to get the best deals. Or, try an internet auction site. You'd be amazed at all the things you can buy on Ebay or other internet auction sites, and all at pennies on the dollar.

Once you get your dual layer DVD burner home, you'll know you made the right decision when you see the memory capacity of the DVD's, the sound and picture quality. Just pop that DVD into your player and you'll see exactly what a dual layer DVD burner can do. Soon, everyone will want one but at least you can be one of the first few to own this latest, and best, technology.

http://EzineArticles.com/?Dual-Layer-DVD-Burner---For-Ultimate-Capacity&id=4689593

Read some reviews from people who invested a lot more money than you to own the first wave of new technology and learn if it is really worth the expense. You'd be surprised -- sometimes it's not all that great.

Certainly after Christmas will be the right time to check out the auction sites for DVD burners that are no longer wanted. You might be lucky to find this year's model at a great discount due to a return or warrantee issue.

Happy Hunting!

At first I didn't know what to do, but I quickly learned how to shrink those files down!

Compressing files is the only way you're going to get ALL of the movie on one disc. Before I knew this, I had 2 discs for every movie -- simply because the disc couldn't hold all the info. It was a mess. Discs were everywhere.

So listen to what Roger has to say and what *free* program to use to get your files nicely packed.

What Is A DVD Shrink?

DVD Shrink enables you to copy a DVD very easily. Copying a DVD doesn't get much simpler than this. Put the DVD into DVD-ROM or DVD burner. Choose either a Full Disk (1:1) copy or a main movie only. It'll analyze DVD, encode video files, and finally burn a copy of the DVD to DVD±R media.

DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size, which is usually below 4.7GB. The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning.

With DVD Shrink, you can reduce the size of the DVD in two ways. One is to remove content from the DVD eg. Remove extra features, and the other is to keep the entire original content, but reduce their quality and hence, file size.

DVD Shrink is the a free software that allows you to "shrink" existing DVD movies by removing content or reducing their quality so that they will all fit onto a single 4.7 GB DVD recordable. This is the first software of this kind that is actually free.

Most DVD titles are designed to prevent you from making copies. The first preventative measure is encryption. Most DVD titles are encrypted, which prevents you from either copying them to your hard drive, or if you manage to do so, being able to play the resulting files.

The next problem is not so easy. Most DVD video titles are simply too large to fit, without modification, onto a single recordable DVD-R disk. DVD Shrink overcomes this problem by modifying or "shrinking" the data from your original DVD. Last but not lease it's free.

About The Author: Roger King has been using DVD studio pro for video production and get the best results ever. In-house post production facility that do custom video editing, visit his web site www.finalvideoproduction.com for his services.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Roger_King
http://EzineArticles.com/?What-Is-A-DVD-Shrink?&id=688792

It sure was nice of Roger to point out a free alternative, wasn't it? Again, speaking from our experiences, in the beginning we had to set the levels of compression where the backgrounds would not be as sharp as the main area of action. It was okay, but not exactly high quality production work.

It sounds like DVD Shrink takes care of all that for you without losing definition which is going to be important because you probably have a HD television or flat screen panel.

Below, Han publicizes the features of the Lite-On brand of external burners -- worth looking into anyways.

The Lite-On External DVD Burner - What You Should Know

One of the most popular inventions of the last few decades has definitely been the DVD drive. As the technology for the DVD drive progressed and spread through the global economy, more and more demands started to be placed upon the manufacturers of these products. Consumers now require to have drives that not only play the media they work with, but they also want drives that can let them record their personal media onto this disc format as well. Many of these consumers also prefer external DVD burner products over standard burners too.

Within 7 years of this technology's release, the DVD drive replaced most traditional entertainment drives. Most home entertainment systems incorporate DVD capabilities to some extent. Most home entertainment systems are now actually becoming dependent on the capabilities that this new technology provides.

Before you can actually take advantage of the many features and capabilities that are offered by this type of product, you are going to need to define the type of machine that you need the most. By defining the type of product you want to purchase before you actually make a purchase, you can be sure that you will buy the very best product on the market for you. The very first factor you will want to consider when you are trying to find the best burner on the market is the amount of portability you want your product to afford. If you want a portable product, a portable burner is probably perfect for you.

If you are wondering which portable product is considered to be one of the best available today, you may want to take a look at the Lite-On DVD burner. This product is particularly esteemed compared to other models being produced today, because it is not only affordable, but it is also an extremely long lasting product as well.

The best part about this product is the fact that you only need a computer in order to access files or burn files to a disc. Once you plug this machine into a computer through the use of the USB adaptor that is included, you will instantly have all of the power you need to burn your discs and access your files. This simple design makes it incredibly easy to utilize the versatility of DVD's no matter where you are in the world.

This burner also has additional features include that you will likely find useful at some point. If you have ever burned DVD's before, you have likely discovered that some information can be lost through the process of burning files to a disc. When you have this particular drive in your possession though, you will get to take advantage of the feature known as operationSmart-burn. This feature ensures that the speed the files are transferred to the disc are always done at appropriate levels for the capability of the setup you are working with. This feature makes sure that every single file you create for your DVD is of the highest quality possible.

When you are selecting your Lite-On product, you should also keep in mind that these products come in many different colors. You should also consider the fact that these products also come in standard and slim versions as well. As long as you take these factors into consideration, along with the other factors that can affect your purchase, you will certainly choose the very best burner available on the market for you.

So, if you purchase an external DVD burner, you will be simplifying and adding functionality to your entertainment at home. If you are looking for a great way to improve your entertainment capabilities when you are on the go, it is unlikely that you will find a better product than a portable DVD drive. Also, if you buy a burner, rather than a standard drive, you will certainly be able to perform more operations with your computer than you would be able to do otherwise. Buying any type of computer component can often be a confusing task.

If you want to make sure you are buying the right product for your requirements, you should investigate the different DVD products currently on the market by visiting our site (liteonexternaldvdburner.com) in order to learn more about the best burners on the market for you.

Looking to find the best deal on Lite On External DVD Burner, then visit http://liteonexternaldvdburner.com to find the best advice on DVD Burner or Lite On External DVD Burner for you.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Han_Fan
http://EzineArticles.com/?The-Lite-On-External-DVD-Burner---What-You-Should-Know&id=4072199

As with all USB devices, you end up trading off the need of an external power cord versus the speed of transfer. If you're not in a major hurry and want more flexibility (movement), then go with a USB model, but if you're planning on cranking out multiple discs per day, you might want to invest a little more money and get a desktop or stand-alone model; otherwise, you'll end up burning that device up.

He does emphasize using the trial versions of the various software programs that you can download from the 'net. I agree with him on that point.

You'll never know if something is either too complex, or too simple for your needs unless you try it out and you might as well do it without spending any of your money too!

Software For Burning Movie DVDs

Movie DVDs can be burnt with a DVD burner. These DVD burners use a specialized software to write movies to the DVD. The capability of the software for burning movie DVDs, as well as the reader and the recorder determines the system's ability to copy specific digital video files, with the desired quality. The higher the quality of the software, the better, the production quality of the DVD.

Several types of software for burning movie DVDs exist in the market today. While some are for free, others are bought at a price. Some Software like Gear DVD Standard Edition, Easy Media creator and Nero 6 Ultra Edition features thorough and qualitative writings. With a DVD burning software, you can also allow transfer the ripped DVD contents from the hard drive to a blank DVD recordable, in a way that maintains to the standards that allow the CD to be read by a normal DVD player. This makes the disk compatible with a variety of DVD players.

It may sound complicated at the start, but it is easy once you've used the software to burn movies, taking the proper instructions. By the time you've used it once or twice more, it becomes quite easier.

The software for burning movie DVDs usually comes in the 'plus' and the 'minus' formats. Almost all digital videos comes in the same format, while there are some burners that use both formats. The DVD forum promotes the minus format, while the 'plus' the DVD+RW alliance promotes the plus format.

It was hard for us the first few times we burned a DVD movie with our software too. I made a checklist on Notepad that I followed until I got used to doing it.

I use that same Notepad file every time I return to burn more DVD movies because by then, I've usually forgotten what the steps are, so it's nice to have them handy any time I want to burn a quick disc.

Luckily, Matt does tell you what you'll need, but unless you're more techno-savy than my brother or I am, I'd recommend spending a few bucks to get a 'real' computer program to burn your DVDs.

Selecting Free DVD Burning Software

Instead of buying expensive copying software, free DVD burning software is a good alternative. If you are looking to create images and burn them, there are some good free options available. This type of freeware can be used to create an mp3 play list, free up space on your hard drive, and many other tasks. There are quite a few free DVD burning software applications available on the internet, however, they are not going to be as comprehensive as Nero or Roxio. If you need all-in-one freeware that can handle all your burning needs, you are probably going to need more than one application to complete tasks.

You can use free DVD copying software to burn data DVDs for free and ImgBurn is the answer. ImgBurn is a comprehensive free DVD burning software that works great. This software is one of the best free programs available for creating data DVDs for free on any version of Windows. ImgBurn is geared towards building disk images and then burning those images onto a disk. This software can handle CD, DVD, blu-ray and hd-DVD. ImgBurn works by reading existing disk images, creating disk images, and then burning files directly to a disk. It also verifies your disks so you avoid losing any data during the burning process.

If you want to make disks that will work on a regular DVD player, you will need to use separate software since freeware such as ImgBurn cannot complete this step. The solution is to use a free application called SoThink Movie DVD Maker. You can use this program to create the file structure ready for burning to DVD from any movie. When the files are ready to be burned to a DVD, you can use ImgBurn to create the disk. If you are looking to create DVD menus, or the ability to create a DVD that can play in a PlayStation 3 system, you will have to use additional software with more advanced features.

When you are looking for free DVD burning software, you will obviously want to find something as versatile as possible.

I figure that after wasting enough blank DVD discs (and time) on copies that didn't work, I should have just bought a packaged program. You can find them on clearance sometimes -- since they update them from time to time and you can always get by without the latest button, or scan option.

Here's to you doing a better job than I did when I first used copy software for my DVDs.
